Convert GHz to THz
Interactive gigahertz to terahertz conversion tool
The GHz to THz converter below can be used to quickly and easily convert gigahertz to terahertz. Simply enter the number of gigahertz you want to convert and the calculator will output the corresponding value in terahertz.
What is the conversion factor between gigahertz and terahertz?
A conversion factor is used to change the units of a measured quantity without changing its value. It represents the ratio (or fraction) that expresses the relationship between two different units. A conversion factor is always equal to 1.
The relationship between gigahertz and terahertz is 1000, such as:
Following the formula above, we can see that there are 1000 gigahertz for every terahertz, and for every gigahertz, there are 11000 terahertz (0.001 THz).
To convert from gigahertz to terahertz, we turn our formula into a conversion factor that is equal to 1.
Both these fractions are equal to 1. The numerator and the denominator are equivalent, they are just expressed in different units.
Because we are converting from gigahertz to terahertz, we will use the first fraction: 1 THz1000 GHz so that gigahertz are canceled out. We then multiply the value in gigahertz by this fraction to get the result in terahertz (see example).
Note that GHz is in the denominator (bottom) of the conversion factor. This is important, you always want to have the unit you are converting from at the bottom and the unit you are converting to in the numerator (top).
You will find below how to use this ratio to convert from GHz to THz. Just remember for now that the conversion factor for converting from gigahertz to terahertz is:
Which is bigger, a gigahertz or a terahertz?
When it comes to measurements, there can be some confusion over which is bigger, a gigahertz or an terahertz. To find out which one is larger, we must first convert one unit to the other and then compare them.
- 1 GHz = 11000 THz = 0.001 THz
- 0.001 terahertz is smaller than 1 terahertz.
- 1 gigahertz is, therefore, smaller than 1 terahertz.
- To be more specific, a terahertz is 1000 times bigger than a gigahertz.

How to convert gigahertz to terahertz?
Multiplying any value by 1 will get you the same value back. You can do that one time or multiple times.
For example:
- 47 x 1 = 47
- 155 x 1 x 1 x 1 = 155
Multiplying by 1 is the first step in any unit conversion problem. The second step is to replace the number 1 with the conversion factor that is also equal to 1.
For example, if we want to convert 100000 gigahertz into terahertz we multiply 100000 GHz by the conversion factor of 1 THz1000 GHz
By replacing the number 1 with the conversion factor, gigahertz are canceled out and we get the result in terahertz. And since the conversion factor is equal to 1, multiplying it with the original value won't change its magnitude and will only change its unit.
Based on this, we can conclude that 100000 gigahertz are equal to 100 terahertz.
Remember:
- When converting from gigahertz to terahertz, we use 1 THz1000 GHz as a conversion factor.

How to convert 57 gigahertz to terahertz?
We multiply 57 by the factor of 1
We replace the number 1 with the conversion factor for gigahertz to terahertz
We multiply 57 gigahertz by the conversion factor. Having gigahertz in the denominator allows us to cancel out the undesired units (GHz) leaving only terahertz in the final result.
Answer: There are 0.057 terahertz in 57 gigahertz
How many terahertz are in 255 gigahertz?
Multiply 255 by the conversion factor. Make sure the unwanted unit (GHz) is in the denominator.
This allows us to cancel out the gigahertz (GHz) and leave the terahertz (THz)
Answer: There are 0.255 terahertz in 255 gigahertz
