Convert Hz to kHz
Interactive hertz to kilohertz conversion tool
The Hz to kHz converter below can be used to quickly and easily convert hertz to kilohertz. Simply enter the number of hertz you want to convert and the calculator will output the corresponding value in kilohertz.
What is the conversion factor between hertz and kilohertz?
A conversion factor is used to change the units of a measured quantity without changing its value. It represents the ratio (or fraction) that expresses the relationship between two different units. A conversion factor is always equal to 1.
The relationship between hertz and kilohertz is 1000, such as:
Following the formula above, we can see that there are 1000 hertz for every kilohertz, and for every hertz, there are 11000 kilohertz (0.001 kHz).
To convert from hertz to kilohertz, we turn our formula into a conversion factor that is equal to 1.
Both these fractions are equal to 1. The numerator and the denominator are equivalent, they are just expressed in different units.
Because we are converting from hertz to kilohertz, we will use the first fraction: 1 kHz1000 Hz so that hertz are canceled out. We then multiply the value in hertz by this fraction to get the result in kilohertz (see example).
Note that Hz is in the denominator (bottom) of the conversion factor. This is important, you always want to have the unit you are converting from at the bottom and the unit you are converting to in the numerator (top).
You will find below how to use this ratio to convert from Hz to kHz. Just remember for now that the conversion factor for converting from hertz to kilohertz is:
Which is bigger, a hertz or a kilohertz?
When it comes to measurements, there can be some confusion over which is bigger, a hertz or an kilohertz. To find out which one is larger, we must first convert one unit to the other and then compare them.
- 1 Hz = 11000 kHz = 0.001 kHz
- 0.001 kilohertz is smaller than 1 kilohertz.
- 1 hertz is, therefore, smaller than 1 kilohertz.
- To be more specific, a kilohertz is 1000 times bigger than a hertz.

How to convert hertz to kilohertz?
Multiplying any value by 1 will get you the same value back. You can do that one time or multiple times.
For example:
- 23 x 1 = 23
- 394 x 1 x 1 x 1 = 394
Multiplying by 1 is the first step in any unit conversion problem. The second step is to replace the number 1 with the conversion factor that is also equal to 1.
For example, if we want to convert 1 hertz into kilohertz we multiply 1 Hz by the conversion factor of 1 kHz1000 Hz
By replacing the number 1 with the conversion factor, hertz are canceled out and we get the result in kilohertz. And since the conversion factor is equal to 1, multiplying it with the original value won't change its magnitude and will only change its unit.
Based on this, we can conclude that 1 hertz are equal to 0.001 kilohertz.
Remember:
- When converting from hertz to kilohertz, we use 1 kHz1000 Hz as a conversion factor.

How to convert 14 hertz to kilohertz?
We multiply 14 by the factor of 1
We replace the number 1 with the conversion factor for hertz to kilohertz
We multiply 14 hertz by the conversion factor. Having hertz in the denominator allows us to cancel out the undesired units (Hz) leaving only kilohertz in the final result.
Answer: There are 0.014 kilohertz in 14 hertz
How many kilohertz are in 880 hertz?
Multiply 880 by the conversion factor. Make sure the unwanted unit (Hz) is in the denominator.
This allows us to cancel out the hertz (Hz) and leave the kilohertz (kHz)
Answer: There are 0.88 kilohertz in 880 hertz

Convert from Kilohertz (kHz):
- Kilohertz to terahertz (kHz to THz)
1 kHz = 11e+9 THz = 1e-9 THz - Kilohertz to gigahertz (kHz to GHz)
1 kHz = 11e+6 GHz = 1e-6 GHz - Kilohertz to megahertz (kHz to MHz)
1 kHz = 11000 MHz = 0.001 MHz - Kilohertz to hertz (kHz to Hz)
1 kHz = 1000 Hz
Convert to Kilohertz (kHz):
- Terahertz to kilohertz (THz to kHz)
1 THz = 1e+9 kHz - Gigahertz to kilohertz (GHz to kHz)
1 GHz = 1e+6 kHz - Megahertz to kilohertz (MHz to kHz)
1 MHz = 1000 kHz - Hertz to kilohertz (Hz to kHz)
1 Hz = 11000 kHz = 0.001 kHz
