What is the conversion factor between meters and kilometers?

Which is bigger, a meter or a kilometer?
When it comes to measurements, there can be some confusion over which is bigger, a meter or an kilometer. To find out which one is larger, we must first convert one unit to the other and then compare them.
- 1 m = 11000 km = 0.001 km
- 0.001 kilometer is smaller than 1 kilometer.

How to convert meters to kilometers?
Multiplying any value by 1 will get you the same value back. You can do that one time or multiple times.
For example:
- 27 x 1 = 27
- 107 x 1 x 1 x 1 = 107
Multiplying by 1 is the first step in any unit conversion problem. The second step is to replace the number 1 with the conversion factor that is also equal to 1.
For example, if we want to convert 10000 meters into kilometers we multiply 10000 m by the conversion factor of 1 km1000 m
By replacing the number 1 with the conversion factor, meters are canceled out and we get the result in kilometers. And since the conversion factor is equal to 1, multiplying it with the original value won't change its magnitude and will only change its unit.
Based on this, we can conclude that 10000 meters are equal to 10 kilometers.
